Commissioned Family Portrait.

Commissioned Family Portrait.

This Family portrait was commissioned by a customer in the USA whose roots were Scottish. She wanted her children to have a reminder of their origins.We worked together to compile a range of meaningful things to be included in the painting:

In the background of the painting can be seen “The Paps of Jura", a recognisable landmark in the Inner Hebrides, western Scotland, close to Gourock.

Other Scottish elements in the painting are the seals, the oystercatcher, thistles & heather and tartan (the picnic rug).

Her two sons loved the film "how to train your dragon” and hidden amongst the pebbles on the beach is a hatching dragons egg.

Her daughter, who loves faeries, holds her very own Scottish faerie and
tucked away in the grassy bank, the faeries wee front door, and a watching hare signifying good luck.

The other elements of the picture signify:
Sunshine = vitality, passion, youth.
Rocks = strength, integrity, refuge.
Sea = maternal instincts, the origin of life.
Ladybird = good luck.

Feedback:
Customers words: "I saw your work and loved it, and then when I saw that you were living in Scotland I felt an instant connection. I was born in Scotland and really wanted a painting that depicted parts of my heritage as well as mine and my children's personalities. The whole process working with you was really great! From the first e-mails where you asked about our likes and interests....to the joy of seeing the outline of the painting and then the beautiful finished product!

My kids were super excited when they saw the painting. Kara couldn't be happier that she's holding her very own fairy, It's just like a picture from a fairytale. Thank you so much for a piece of art that will have a forever home on our wall (and in our hearts). It was a pleasure working with you! We all love our painting sooo much! "

Ruthie works with her customers to find the inspiration for the design of their Custom Portrait, and helps customers decide which elements of their background, heritage & culture they would like included in the portrait.

If you would be interested in having your very own family portrait done that is filled with symbology and the story of your family then do get in touch. Ruthie will send you some information to work with and help you decide what it is you would like in your very own painting.
